Ocean Sushi Deli is located right in the heart of Hilo, on Kilauea Street across Spencers Fitness Center. They're known for their delicious sushi and reasonable prices. On August 12, we went to go experience the sushi for ourselves. When we arrived, Tiara was so glad that she had made reservations for 6:45 because at that time there was a long line of people waiting to be seated since they hadn't made reservations.
When we got to our table, the waitress immediately brought water and asked if there was anything we needed. After taking a long look at the menu since there were so many choices to choose from, we finally made our decision on what we wanted. Eva ordered the Alaskan Roll for ($5.00) which had deep fried crab, cream cheese, avocado, and cucumber with either spicy or special mayo and also a Veg-Ten Roll ($4.00) which had vegetable tempura with either spicy or special mayo. Tiara had the Hilo Roll ($5.00) which had cooked mahi mahi, avocado, crab, and cucumber with either spicy or special mayo and the Uptown Roll ($4.00) which had chicken katsu in the middle with katsu sauce drizzled on the top. We both chose the spicy mayo, however we couldn't really taste the "spicyness" in it. The sushi came in rolls that were cut up into either 5 or 6 pieces.
After we finished eating our sushi, we thought that it wasn't the best sushi we've eaten. The reason we feel this way is because the rice was a little hard and the sushi didn't seem that fresh. Maybe we should have gone earlier so that the rice would have been more fresh. Eva thought that the vegetable tempura in the Veg-Ten Roll seemed a little stale. Although the prices were reasonable, overall we would rate Ocean Sushi Deli 5 out of 10.
